Look out mistresses! Desperate times call for desperate measures as an article in People magazine this past spring showed clearly. It featured a story about “a woman scorned.” In about seven of our great states across the US there is a little known law that allows wives to sue mistresses or girlfriends of their husbands for “alienation of affection” in divorce petitions. The wife in the article was awarded 9 million from her husband’s play thing. The article ended with the wife stating, “I would rather be with my husband today and have our marriage the way it was than have the 9 million.” Hummm….I have to wonder how honest she was, but who am I to say?
Serious money like that may cause some women to re-think dating married men. Granted, most wives wouldn’t usually get quite that much, and the action must be proven. (The wife had hired a private detective). But it’s a law worth looking into.
When pretty little cats step out with married dogs, they had better watch out. Wives will be tempted to not only scratch their almond shaped eyes out, but also sue for a huge landfall in the process.
